- Judy Garland was born Frances Gumm on the 10th day of June in 1922. Starting her career as a performer at the age of three, she went on stage with her two sisters, who were known as "The Gumm Sisters", who's name later changed to Garland after a parent's marriage. After the group broke up, and Frances became known as Judy Garland, her mother encouraged her to take off solo, with such a great voice. Soon later, at the tender age of 13, Judy signed a contract to MGM by means of Louis B. ... Later on (but still very early) Garland starred in many films with the young Mickey Rooney, which developed into a long-lasting friendship.
