Alan Colmes is a liberal talk radio host and co-host of Fox News Channel's political debate program Hannity and Colmes. He was a well known radio talk show personality in the New York City area before being asked to appear on the Fox show.
Colmes has also written a book, Red, White & Liberal: How Left is Right and Right is Wrong (ISBN 0060562978) which was released in October, 2003
Colmes has the unique distinction of being criticized from both the left and the right. Although he is often identified as a liberal, many liberals view him as being a pushover on the Hannity and Colmes show, providing a weak counter to the more overpowering Sean Hannity. Liberal commentator Al Franken, in his book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them even prints Colmes' name in smaller font throughout his text to emphasize this fact.
Colmes has also admitted to USA Today that he's really more of a moderate than a liberal.
