- A new focus on teaching the arts in California public schools began with the publication of ARTS WORK, the report of the arts task force formed in 1997 by Delaine Eastin, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. The recommendations in the report provide guidance for statewide and local activities and initiatives among stakeholders as they plan, implement and improve visual and performing arts programs for all students. The report has provided momentum for the creation and implementation of content standards in the visual and performing arts.
