2. Bossier Arts Council (City of Bossier City, Louisiana)
- Mission Statement | History of the Arts Council .
- The Bossier Arts Council is an organization of volunteers and professional staff, dedicated to promoting, supporting, and providing cultural events and programming of the highest possible quality in Bossier Parish. The Council encourages the development and growth of other arts organizations and individuals in order to enhance the quality of life and to develop a cultural identity for Bossier Parish.
- History of Bossier Arts Council.
- The beginnings of the Bossier City Arts Council, whose name was changed to the Bossier Arts Council in 1985, date back to 1980. At that time, interested Bossier citizens and Mayor Anding were discussing a service agency for the arts. The first monies designated for the Bossier Arts Council were granted by the Division of the Arts in 1980. Bossier Art Association wrote the application, Shreveport Regional Arts Council administered the grant, and the funds were matched by the City of Bossier (through the hiring of an employee and providing office space and some operational monies), Bossier Art Association, and Shreveport Regional Arts Council.
- Bossier Art Association already produced a spring exhibit; thus, the first program of the Bossier Arts Council was an expansion in scope and vision for this exhibit. Art in the Park was born, Bossier's first arts festival. ... Then the Council added a national program that sends a performing artist into an area for residency, the beginning of the Arts in Schools program. ... Bossier Arts Council group sought to act as a service agency rather than a promoting agency by enhancing other cultural events and acting as an administrative resource. ...
- The Bossier Arts Council continued to expand programming and events in a variety of arts areas: music, theatre, exhibits, and education. Then, in September of 1984, the City of Bossier City suggested that Bossier Arts Council was ready to separate from the city. ... To help Bossier Arts Council become more independent, the City of Bossier City committed $62,500, beginning January of 1985. At that time, Bossier Arts Council moved their office out of the Bossier Parks and Recreation offices at Coleman Street and into the Bossier Bank and Trust building. Bossier Arts Council has formally separated from the City, but remains their designated official arts agency and continues to enjoy their support through financial and personal assistance.
