• AUGUSTA — The Maine Arts Commission has awarded 22 grants, totaling more than $150,000, to Maine arts organizations, communities and artists via its Artists in Maine Communities program. Funded partially by the National Endowment for the Arts' Challenge America program, the program is designed to assist arts organizations, schools and other community groups to develop collaborative projects that employ Maine artists to benefit Maine communities, schools or families.
• Funds from the agency's four major programs - contemporary artists, arts in education, community arts and public art - are combined to provide money for collaborative projects across the state.
• Bangor Region Area Arts & Cultural Council with Bangor Center Corporation, Bangor High School/Art in the Heart of Maine; Bangor's "Arts on the Green," $7,500.
• Bowdoin International Music Festival with Coastal Youth Orchestra, BAACA, Curtis Memorial Library; commission of a new composition, Brunswick, $7,500.
• Brunswick Area Arts & Cultural Alliance with Arts Are Elementary, Curtis Memorial Library, Pejepscot Historical Society, Spindleworks, Patten Free Library, West Island Gallery, Town of Richmond Office of Community and Economic Development, Richmond Arts Zone; expanding arts programming in the region, Brunswick, $7,500.
• Celebration Barn Theater with Maine Alliance of Media Arts and Tony Montanaro Film Project, South Paris, $7,500.
• Center for Furniture Craftsmanship with Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Maine Woodworkers Association; juried exhibition, Rockport, $5,245.
